When ordering labels, people are usually in doubt about whether to choose matte or glossy finish. This is not an easy decision to make and it has to be an informed one, because it will affect the overall appearance of the product.
Matte finish is commonly used when going for an “artsy”, vintage, washed out look. However, if your goal is to bring out the full specter of colors on your label, to make sure the information is readably and sharply separated from the images on page, and to present information in a vibrant manner, glossy labels are for you.
If you’d like a combination of the two – bright inks and not-so-shiny surface – you can order matte lamination over glossy varnish for a nicely balanced label.
